Be a Part of the Tradition

Shelby & Lindsey - Richard Childress Racing - 6/18/08

Dale Earnhardt drove for Richard Childress Racing for most of his career.  That fact is very evident as you visit the Richard Childress Racing Museum.  The museum is located in the original RCR #3 race shop.  The museum houses, according to its website, 46 race cars (over 20 of them being Dale Earnhardt’s).  For the Dale Jr fans, there is also a (formerly) Busch series car that Dale Earnhardt Jr drove to victory at Daytona in February 2002.

I guess I would classify the area pictured above as the back of the museum.  I would say it is the room where the hauler was kept between races.  (I say that because there is a hauler in it on display.)  As guests enter the museum, they are given a silver Sharpie.  In this room, they are encouraged to write a short message in one of the squares.  There are so many signatures that the (already signed) wall panels are stacked up behind the hauler.  I looked for the signature I added last October but couldn’t find it.  I went ahead and added another one (just in case my first one got erased).

I would encourage all NASCAR fans (RCR/Dale Sr fans or not) to visit the museum when they are in the area.  Even though I wasn’t a NASCAR fan for much of the history in the museum, I can definitely appreciate the history it contains.

RCR’s shop is now located back behind the museum building.  There is a walkway in it where fans can see through a glass window down into the shop.  I didn’t visit it last October but made sure I did this time.  It’s neat to see the cars all lined up on the shop floor.  Think they mark the spots so they don’t get uneven?  :)
