I know some of you visiting my blog today are NASCAR fans. While others are not. The typical comment by a non-fan is something to the effect of…”All NASCAR is is a bunch of cars driving around in a circle.” I will admit that is the basic jest of the sport. The cars do drive around in a circle for the race. There really is so much more to the sport than that, though. When you start watching races, you start to learn terminology and you typically find a driver or team you root for. As those things start happening, you start realizing there is a lot more to NASCAR than just driving around in a circle. I think it is the same way with other sports. Is football just a bunch of guys hitting each other? Is golf simply hitting a ball with a club? (Ok…If you answer “yes” to that and are a golfer, I really have to wonder. I’m not even a golf fan but I know there is so much more to it than that. You have to make sure you use the right club. You have to check the wind direction/speed. I could go on and on.) To “outsiders”, the sport may seem boring or stupid but to fans that understand the sport it is so much more than that.
