Or…Is this year 2 in the rivalry and is it really Arkansas 1 - Houston Nutt 1?
Houston Nutt’s first return to Razorback Stadium since the end of last season was definitely eventful.

September 20, 2008 was not a pretty day for Razorback fans. We hosted Alabama and lost 49-14. I don’t think the Razorback Marching Band realized that day that they would be the highlight of the game (for Hog fans). Their halftime show that day was titled “Things That Go Bump in the Night”. It featured a rendition of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson with a special non-musical surprise within the song. They received a pretty good standing ovation for their performance. I found this video of one of their practices of “Thriller”. It’s the best video I’ve seen of the performance. Enjoy!
Last night, Arvest Ballpark hosted Joe Nichols in concert. Another local boy - Tim Meitzen - opened for Joe.
Well, although Tim now lives in northwest Arkansas while going to the U of A, he is actually from over in Batesville, Arkansas. I still consider him a hometown boy, though. Tim was a great opening act. He sang several covers and also two or three originals. I’m told he performs down on Dickson St in Fayetteville pretty often so I might have to see him again in the near future. Instead of strumming his guitar and singing in the above picture, he is playing with his cell phone. In case no one heard, Arkansas beat Auburn yesterday evening. They were in the closing minutes of the game when Tim took the stage, and Arkansas was ahead. Tim was very interested to know the outcome. When the game concluded, the crowd errupted in celebration but Tim wasn’t completely convinced the Hogs had actually pulled off the win so he decided to take a moment to double-check the score on his cell phone. When it became official, he led us in singing the Arkansas Fight Song. Woo Pig Sooie!!!
The Arkansas-Florida football game kicks off in 2 hours. It is currently rainy and cool outside. I decided yesterday not to go to the game (and, based on the number of tickets I’ve seen for sale this week, I’m not the only one). I like the cool weather but I don’t think I could sit and be wet the entire time. Anyways…Like I said, Arkansas plays Florida today. The Hogs obviously aren’t the #1 team in the SEC at the moment. I do think they have the ability to shock a team at anytime, though. This would be the perfect week to do that! Go Hogs!
Update: Arkansas lost 38-7.
Dancing with the Stars started this week. It did not disappoint! There are some, of course, that aren’t dancers but there are several that are pretty good week 1 and should just get better and better and better. Who are my favorites? Well, Lance Bass was my favorite going into this season. His partner is perfect for him. Here was their first dance of the competition.
I also think Brooke Burke is going to be a favorite all season long. Warren Sapp is a very pleasant surprise. He’s a good sized guy but can definitely move!
Bikes, Blues, & BBQ started last night in Fayetteville. I knew this bike rally was large but I didn’t realize how large - 3rd largest bike rally in the country and largest charitable bike rally in the country. The rally raises money for some great local charities. In the past, I’ve attended a concert or two during the rally - Big & Rich 2 years ago, actually. The concert this year is the Allman Brothers on Saturday night. I have a friend’s engagement party to go to so I won’t be attending. It should be a good concert, though, I’m sure.
The Razorbacks finally play the Longhorns on Saturday afternoon. The game is a couple of weeks later than it should have been because of Hurricane Ike but I don’t think the outcome is really going to be that different. It isn’t that I’m a pessimist. I’m thinking of myself more of a realist right this moment when thinking about the game. I would absolutely love to be proved wrong, though. The game is on tv and I’m going to my parents’ house to watch the game & hang out.
