Day 6 - Bonus Sighting

Red Bull Team - Grapevine Mills Mall - Grapevine, TX - 11/2/08

My last blog entry was all about Sunday’s race.  I had to do a special blog entry for the above picture.  It was taken Sunday night after Penni & I finished eating supper in Grapevine, TX.  Your eyes are not deceiving you.  There are Red Bull Racing cars & haulers in the parking lot of the Grapevine Mills Mall.  When Penni & I got to Steak ‘N Shake there was 1 unmarked hauler and 2 83’s & 84’s sitting out and crew members moving parts around the lot.  We had a hunch of what was going on but weren’t 100% sure until we saw the 83 & 84 haulers.  The unmarked hauler brought the Phoenix (this weekend’s race) cars to meet the 83 & 84 haulers who would give the unmarked hauler the Texas cars to take back to Charlotte and take the Phoenix cars on westward.  It was neat getting to witness this.  We always hear about haulers trading cars but never have witnessed it ourselves.

One final bonus…Here is a slideshow of all of the pictures I took in Texas for the NASCAR race last weekend.  Enjoy!

Day 3 - The Trucks

Texas Motor Speedway - 10/30/08

Thursday was our first visit to Texas Motor Speedway of the weekend.  We went in time for the Craftsman Truck series qualifying and to see the Sprint Cup series haulers come into the track.

What a Weekend!

The past 5 days have been great!  I dropped Penni off at the airport for her trip back to Georgia earlier this morning and have been doing a little bit of work since then.  I’m supposed to be meeting my cousin Paige after while to hang out and reconnect.  (She’s from TX and I haven’t seen her since her grandfather’s funeral earlier this year.)

The New Kids on the Block concert was AMAZING!  I’m sitting here listening to their music as I’m working and writing this entry.  I’ve got several pictures and a full review coming later.

Penni & I had a great time at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.  Ron Hornaday won the Craftsman Truck series race Friday night.  Kyle Busch won the Nationwide series race Saturday afternoon.  Carl Edwards won the Sprint Cup series race last night.  I have lots of pictures and stories from TMS to share in the upcoming week.

Stay tuned!

What a Weekend…in Ohio & Michigan

Penni and I went to Ohio last weekend (Aug 14-19) to visit Sarah & Andi.  On Friday-Sunday, we were actually a couple of hours north in Michigan for some NASCAR.  On Friday, we saw Cup practice & qualifying plus Nationwide practice.  On Saturday, we saw Nationwide qualifying plus the Nationwide race.  Then, on Sunday, we saw the Cup race.

I don’t think attending a NASCAR race will ever be the same if I don’t have a weekend pit pass.  A pit pass allows you to get so much more closer to the cars, drivers, and on-track action.  I took over 600 photos in Michigan and got half a dozen autographs that I really wouldn’t have gotten without the pit pass.  Here is a picture of me prior to Nationwide qualifying on Saturday in front of the JR Motorsports #88 Navy Chevy.

I’m going to post another blog entry explaining some of my photos.  (There’s a story to every photo, you know?)  If you want to go ahead and see the best photos I took in Michigan, click here.  (Clicking on the thumbnail will take you to a larger version of the photograph.)

Homeward Bound

I am sitting in the Memphis International Airport right now waiting on my flight from MEM to Northwest Arkansas.  I should be home in 2 hours.

I had a great time in Ohio & Michigan.  (Although, Monday didn’t quite go how any of us had planned or wanted.)  I got several autographs and took over 500 photos at the track.  Penni & I have decided that attending a race without a weekend pit pass just won’t be the same.  Besides seeing Penni again and officially meeting Sarah & Andi, I also got to officially meet Hilary.  She came into town last night and we (me, Penni, & Hilary) went and had supper together.

I feel like I could sleep the day away once I get home today so, if I do, you probably won’t hear from me much the rest of today.  If I get home and am awake, I’ll start working on photos and blog entries about my trip.
