Today is NASCAR Day 2009.  NASCAR Day is a “one-day celebration of the NASCAR spirit and its fans.”  For a $5 donation, participants receive a special commemorative lapel pin and are encouraged to wear their favorite NASCAR duds to work and play today.  The proceeds from the donations go to the NASCAR Foundation, which helps fund several organizations including Victory Junction Gang Camp.

Lee, Richard, Kyle, & Adam Petty - 3/23/99

As previously mentioned, the Victory Junction Gang Camp was founded by Kyle Petty & his wife Pattie in memory of their son Adam.  The camp was a vision and dream of Adam Petty’s after visiting a similar camp in 1999.

This camp was Adam’s vision. As part of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride, he and Kyle used to visit children’s hospitals. Adam adored those visits, and hoped to one day create a paradise that made sick children feel normal.

Adam died in May 2000 at the age of 19 before he was able to realize his dream.  Kyle spent the 4 years after Adam’s death making his vision a reality.  The Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, NC opened on Father’s Day (June 20) 2004.

The Victory Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment.

This is the official beginning of my Day of Blogs.  I plan on posting at least 1 blog entry every 30 minutes for the next 24 hours.  (That’s 48 for those of you counting.)

I’m going to use this day to catch you up on the goings on in my life, share some (maybe) new things about myself, and most importantly tell you about the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

VJGC is the charity I have chosen to support today.  I know some of you can donate and some of you can’t.  Any donation (no matter the amount) is appreciated.  There is a widget from Network for Good on the right-hand side of my blog that you can use to donate.  If you are not able to donate (and even if you are), I would love for you to share this day with me by checking in periodically and reading/commenting on the blog entries I post today.

I have decided to participate in the 2008 Day of Blogs.  The Day of Blogs is a fundraiser marathon of blogging.  It involves blogging for 24 hours straight (at least 1 post every 30 minutes).  The reason I am doing this is to raise money for the Victory Junction Gang Camp.  (I plan on posting during the DoB about the Victory Junction Gang Camp.  If you would like more information about it before then, click on this link.)  I have added a widget on the right-hand side of my blog that I would like to encourage readers that are able to use to donate to VJGC either before, during, or up to 48 hours after the Day of Blogs.  Whether or not you are able to financially support my cause, I would love for you stop by during the 24 hours and read the blogs I posted and comment.  (I’ll need all the encouragement I can get to stay up for 24 hours straight.  Haha!)  During the day, I am going to be using the category of DayOfBlogs08 so you can easily access all of my entries that day.
